Membership is open to any citizen of voting age. A member of the League of Women Voters of the Kalamazoo Area is automatically a member of the League of Women Voters of Michigan and the League of Women Voters of the United States and receives publications from all three.

What does the League do?

  • Lobbies and testifies on issues the League has studied
  • Sponsors debates and forums to give voters the opportunity to compare candidates
  • Studies issues in order to understand and reach consensus on issues that can be affected by political action
  • Monitors meetings of government agencies and elected bodies
  • Educates citizens through workshops, publications, and the toll-free Citizen Information Center phone line
  • Registers people to vote and defends voters’ rights by providing information about voting and election laws.
